ICPSR Membership

SADA is a subscribing national member of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Established in 1962, ICPSR provides access to the world's largest archive of computer-based research and instructional data (housing over 8000 studies), and training facilities in basic and advanced techniques of quantitative social analysis and other resources that facilitate secondary analysis. The data holdings cover a broad range of disciplines, including political science, sociology, demography, economics, history, foreign policy and law. It has specific topical archives in the fields of health and medical care, gerontology, substance abuse and mental health, education and criminal justice.

As the South African co-ordinator, SADA is inviting South African universities and universities of technology to subscribe, free of charge, to the national membership of ICPSR via the SADA membership. ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods

The ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research offers a comprehensive, integrated program of studies in research design, statistics, data analysis, and social methodology. Basic methodological and technical training is offered, along with opportunities for advanced work in specialized areas. The Program also provides active participatory data analytic experiences that complement formal lectures and discussions.

ICPSR has been offering educational opportunities through the Summer Program since 1963, when the first cohort of 82 participants arrived in Ann Arbor for intensive training in quantitative methods. Thirty-eight years later, the Program continues to provide quality instruction and an impressive range of course options, though it has grown mightily. In recent years our annual attendance has consisted of well over 500 scholars representing two-dozen disciplines, approximately 200 institutions, and a score of nations.

Check the ICPSR summer program web site for scheduled course dates.
