Citation

The South African Data Archive (SADA) provides citations for all of its datasets in
  • the PDF Study Description file, and
  • metadata descriptions of the datasets.
Citations of datasets should include the following elements:
  • Author(s) of the original study, whether individual(s) or institution(s)
  • Title of the original study
  • Material designator [Computer file] to indicate use of an electronic dataset
  • Edition/Version
  • City of the data producer
  • Name of the data producer with the designation [producer]
  • Year the data was produced
  • City of the data distributor - the repository through which you accessed the data
  • Name of the data distributor with the designation [distributor]
  • Year the data was made available in the repository - exact date if available
  • Unique identifier - the repository's UID, for example in the SADA the (hdl.handle.net) number, http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/91
Note that the way these elements would be styled and combined together in the finished document depends on the style in use for citations of textual publications.

General Citation Format:
Authorship. Title [material designator]. Edition/Version. Location of producer: Name of producer [producer], Production date. Location of distributor: Name of distributor [distributor], Distribution date. [Unique identifier]

SADA uses the styles (APA, Chicago, MLA, Oxford) as listed in the source by Ball (2011).
